Ask students to examine the program for the Derst rally.
Divide students into groups and have them choose a strike or protest described in this set, or look up a current one the AFL-CIO Strike Map, then design a program for a rally in support of that strike.
- Does following the layout of the Derst rally program seem effective for the group’s chosen time period?
- What quotes, speakers, and music would most appeal to the rally’s potential audience?
- How does the program express the stakes and goals of the rally it’s supporting, and what does it ask from its audience?
